Challenge Route

The Challenge Route of the Moor to Sea Sportive has always proved to be the most popular option of the three routes. Starting from Haldon Forest Park (where there is ample parking, a cafe & toilets) this route covers a distance of 70 miles and has nearly 6,000 feet of climbing. It includes the iconic climbs of Haytor and Ide that have both featured as KoM segments in the Tour of Britain. It also includes Widecombe Hill which is listed along with Haytor in Simon Warren's 100 Greatest Cycling Climbs.

Moor to Sea is back after a four year break and is now on a Sunday to ensure quieter roads.

KoM & QoM Segment

The Extreme & Challenge routes include a King & Queen of the Mountains hill climb segment at Haytor (24 miles from the start), sponsored by Primal Europe. The Segment starts on the outskirts of Bovey Tracey and ascends 1,200 ft over a distance of 3.6 miles to the summit. The average gradient is 6% with a maximum gradient of 14%. All who complete this hill climb segment within the qualifying time for their gender will receive one of our prestigious KoM or QoM Pin Badges. Additionally, you will be eligible to purchase one of our coveted KoM or QoM Primal Helix 2 cycle jerseys.

Qualifying times are set at 26 minutes for men and 32 minutes for women. These times are calculated against the official Moor 2 Sea Sportive Haytor segment on STRAVA, with those qualifying being placed within the top 40% of all-time achievements for their gender.

Haytor has been used many times in the Devon Stage of the Tour of Britain and is features in Britain's 100 Greatest Cycling Climbs.
